Background

From musician to studio professional.

Dom’s background began in music before moving into professional sound. That musical foundation still shapes the way he listens to spoken performance: rhythm, tone, phrasing, timing, dynamics and emotional shape are central to both recording and post-production.

Since moving into sound professionally, Dom has built a career around voice-led production. He currently works in-house at The Sound Company in London, where his role combines recording, direction, editing and mixing with the wider responsibility of running a busy commercial studio: understanding briefs, shaping estimates and workflows, supporting clients and teams, and ensuring each session has the right creative and technical foundations.

That breadth of experience allows Dom to move comfortably between the creative, technical and operational sides of a production—understanding what performers need in the room, what directors and producers need from the session, and what must happen behind the scenes to deliver the work properly.

How Dom works

Steady judgement, open collaboration and careful detail.

Every session has its own energy. Some are quiet and concentrated; others are fast, funny and gloriously lively. Dom’s role is to read the room, create space for people to do their best work, and keep the creative, technical and production process moving with confidence.

With performers

Dom works with performers at every stage of their careers, from established screen and stage talent to young actors and people entering a professional studio for the first time. The approach changes with the person: attentive, respectful and shaped around what helps each performance come alive.

With directors and producers

Sessions often call for clear communication, quick judgement and an understanding of the wider production. Dom helps translate between creative intention and technical process, keeps options open, and ensures directors and producers can stay closely connected to the performance being built.

With audio

Dom’s post-production work includes detailed dialogue editing, restoration, timing, sound design, mixing and delivery, with close attention to intelligibility, emotional continuity and the way the finished audio carries the production.

With studios

Alongside engineering and direction, Dom oversees the flow of a busy multi-studio facility: planning sessions, shaping estimates, mentoring engineers, solving technical problems and helping clients and teams feel supported from the initial brief through to delivery.

“Dear Dom, I just wanted to thank you for your amazing work last week. As ever, you were superb with all your suggestions and recommendations. Your part in making this happen is invaluable.”
